Yonsei GMBA life update #3 (MBA 연고전, student council, food in Korea)

Being part of university life in South Korea, the school festivals are part of the heart of events. Everybody look forward to school festivals every year as they are grand and celebrated annually. How big are the festivals are? Kpop idols are invited for after party concert. How cool is that! I was planning to attend the 연고전 to experience the high spirit of university students cheering for their university while supporting the sports that they were playing, it was unfortunately cancelled due to the weather (Ling Ling typhoon alerts were sent out everyday, few days prior to the event)

However, the event that I joined so far was the 연고전 (MBA 연고전, specifically). It is a joint sports day between Yonsei University (연세대) and Korea University (고려대), that's why we call it 연고전 Yeon-Go Jeon. As funny as it is, Korea University on the other hand calls it 고연전. MBA 연고전 involves only MBA students from two universities. From our university, there are Global MBA, Finance MBA, Executive MBA and Corporate MBA. This year, the MBA 연고전 was held in Yonsei University.

We were given a pretty Yonsei t-shirt (idk why, I just love the official blue shade of Yonsei) and a nametag that comes with a number for lucky draw later. There were also food trucks and food tent that provides free flow of food and drinks for attendees to fill up their stomach and recharge for the game. The food I ate was spicy 떡볶이 rice cake, 순대 soondae, and 튀김 fried stuffs. They were sooo good. I guess its true when people says free food taste the best.

So about the games, there were games that needed prior registration (like football, baseball, tennis etc that needed to go through rounds on only the final teams were played on the day) and games that were open for everybody to join on the spot (family-friendly games). Because I was so bad in playing games and sports, I only volunteered to throw balls into a basket...haha

To update a bit on my school life, during the mid of September, there was a student council election where all GMBA students will vote for the President and Vice President to represent our class, and the President and VP will select the whole student council board. Long story short, I decided to apply to be part of the student council board and is appointed as "Editor-in-Chief". So basically, I had to create a website for our GMBA class of 2021 and maintain it by posting relevant post-event updates that we attended or organised. Anybody who is interested, feel free to visit (www.yonseigmba.com).

Oh not to mention, all GMBA students were given their personal name cards so that we could exchange it during networking events! How cool is that~

It has been a almost two months since I've arrived here in South Korea. I've managed to try some Korean food that I have never tried before and of course the food that I have been craving so much before coming to South Korea. But eating Korean food everyday is kinda getting hard and bored (?) for me. I was craving Malaysian food so bad too. I went on Naver and searched for Malaysian food and I manage to find one Malaysian restaurant located in Myeongdong called "Kampungku".

I took a look at their menu and already knew what I want to eat before finding my way there. Roti canai! And yes, I've ordered roti canai, nasi goreng kampungku, tomyam mee and nescafe susu ais. I looove the texture of the fried rice, it was so nostalgic to be able to eat that rice again (as you know, Korean rice is more sticky and sweeter) and the tomyam soup was a lot better than the instant cup noodle I bought from convenience store. The thing that I was slightly disappointed is that the roti canai was served with sambal instead of curry :( and there was no rice noodle (bihun) to go with my tomyam :(

However, it was still worth a visit especially people who are staying in South Korea and craves Malaysian food.

You can see Namsan tower at Myeongdong

After having dinner, I went to watch Joker because it was the talk of the town. It was a great movie but it wasn't my type of movie I guess. I thought it would be exciting and funny but the setting of the movie was kind of tense and sad. And, the popcorn in Malaysia is so much better :(
