After the 2nd Round of result announcement by NIIED, all candidates can only wait for further email instructions from the respective 3 universities that they have chosen through embassy track. Some universities might conduct Skype or phone interview, some might just request for additional documents, and some will only email their final decision through email before the deadline given by NIIED.
SUNGKYUNKWAN UNIVERSITY
So in my case, I have applied for Yonsei University, Sungkyunkwan University and Dongguk University. Sungkyunkwan University was the first university to reach out to me out of the three, asking me to do online application through their website. After I did so, they informed me the date and time for a Skype interview.
Below were the questions asked during the interview. Rather than being asked tons of formal interview questions, the interviewer was really nice and was trying to get to know me as a person, and asking me things that was not written in my application.
1. Why MBA
2. What area would I want to focus on (eg finance, marketing etc)
3. My Yonsei KLI experience
4. Leadership activities during high school and undergraduate
5. My hobbies
The interview lasted for 30mins with me telling the interviewer that I will be visiting Seoul soon and might tour around Sungkyunkwan University. He was delighted and asked me to drop by anytime and he would be happy to give me a tour around the university.
Love the energy and insights he has given me so far. It sure does give me a lot of confidence in choosing Sungkyunkwan University.
So on the last day of result announcement, which is on 12th June 2019, I finally receive an email from Sungkyunkwan University. I made it into Sungkyunkwan University!
YONSEI UNIVERSITY
Yonsei University was the second university to reach out to me on 3rd June 2019. I received an email when I was working, as soon as I see the name of the sender I trembled a little. Because why not? It is YONSEI... So I read the email in less than 0.1 seconds after I received it.
Well, as expected, Yonsei University is conducting a Skype interview as usual. Not all departments from Yonsei University conducts interview for their KGSP candidates. So don't be nervous if you are not invited for an interview even if other departments are conducting interview.
I got myself ready at 1:20pm (KST) and waited until 1:40pm with a twisted stomach due to nervousness haha but it was until 1:42pm I didn't receive any call from Yonsei so I've took the initiative to drop them a message. They video called me 10 seconds later and told me they have rang up the wrong person for the last minute.
So, there were two interviewers, both male, both Korean. It was a formal interview as they were wearing formal clothing and were ready with lots of questions. But I like the way they give feedback and was really processing and trying to understand my answers rather than just asking questions.
Below were some questions asked by them:
1. Self-introduction
2. My current job and responsibilities
3. Why MBA
4. Why Korea out of so many other countries
5. My future plan and whether I would want to work in Malaysia or Korea?
6. Why leaving my promising career for Korea
7. My strengths and weaknesses, my hobbies
8. Self-introduction in Korean
9. Am I ready for Yonsei? :D
After an anxious 24 hours worth of wait, I received a congratulatory email from Yonsei MBA! An email I have been dreaming for so long. I still couldn't believe it to be honest. It is truly a dream come true.
DONGGUK UNIVERSITY
Dongguk University has never email or contact me in any sort of way so I was kinda anxious if they were going to do a spontaneous phone call out of the blue (some university did! so keep your phone beside you at all times!). Just when I thought Dongguk University is going to be releasing their final result on 12th June, I received an email on 4th of June 2019 (Tuesday) at 11:47PM, Korea time! Yes almost midnight in Korea!
It was such an odd time to be sending out email. So I wasn't expecting or suspecting any of it and it definitely caught me off guard.
It was the first and last email from Dongguk University I supposed because it is an acceptance of admission email! An email I have been dreaming for months. This email signifies that Dongguk University will not be conducting any interview and that I am accepted as one of their final KGSP candidate. It is good to know that there is at least one university of my choice that has accepted my application at this early stage of screening. Dongguk manse!
So in the end, all three universities that I have applied for has given me an admission to their university. I would never in a million years imagined that this would happen. I would be over the moon if there is any one that is willing to take me in. Because of this, now I have a hard time choosing the universities. I thought I would never have to choose, but apparently, I do now.
